Lindsay Ross BA (Hons) Open - writer, ex-marine engineer, family man, volunteer for good causes and CEO of Notforprophet Publishing. Born in London, now living in Hampshire, England.
The writing bug began in the late 1960s at Winchmore Hill Secondary School encouraged by Nora Young, that legendary 5Y English Language teacher. In 1980 he found himself working as an engineer on tramp cargo ships trading in ports along the West African coastline. A mixture of eye-watering levels of corruption and its smiling acceptance by the populace of countries such as French Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Cameroon provided rich material for letters home to family and friends. These sparked a lifelong love of writing that hopefully makes you think, laugh and get emotional, not necessarily in that order.
Previous published books by Notforprophet Publishing include: Perfect Roger, an epic tale of parallel lives and Hugo, a sporting crime comedy.
Recently completed (2025) is Lyons' Jaguars; a compilation of magazine articles written in fact-based fictional style for Classic Jaguar magazine between 2021 and 2025. These tell the story of Sir William Lyons the founder of Jaguar Cars and his team between the years 1921 and 1985. From the people who made motorcycle sidecars to ultimate luxury saloons and iconic sports-cars, this book tells their story in a unique, entertaining style not normally found in the many non-fiction works.
Honda Turner due for release in 2026 charts the story of automotive giants Soichiro Honda (Honda motorcycles and cars) and Edward Turner (Ariel, BSA, Triumph motorcycles, Daimler cars). Starting in the 1920's and concluding in the 1970's when the Japanese company started to dominate and the English companies foundered. The book explores the two mens lives and their various relationships to offer a better understanding of what went right for one and what went so badly wrong with the other.
Favourite writers? There are so many, but top of the tree has to be Hilary Mantel (Wolf Hall etc) and George McDonald Fraser (The Flashman Papers, Octopussy), both grand exponents of the fact-based fictional style. Others include Norman Lewis, AA Gill, Martin Amis and... how long have you got?
